When the word synergy is taking to it’s roots – “Syn” meaning together and “ergon” means work. A simple definition for “synergy” as used in aromatherapy is the working together of two essential oils that result in an effect greater than the sum of their individual effects.
More powerful therapeutic results are often obtained when essential oils are blended together than when used individually. This blending of two or more essential oils results in completely new compounds being formed.
Synergy blends have been created in order to promote specific benefits such as for relaxing, sensual, alertness, respiratory or applications for use in pain.
Herbal baths can relax the body, stimulate blood flow, calm the emotions, moisturize the skin, aid digestion, and heal various other complaints. Infusions (strong tea), essential oils, and herbal bath salts are the best way to get the benefits of herbal plants into the bath water. Relaxing baths are a great sleep aid.
Foot baths are used to treat everything from the flu to varicose veins. Submerge both feet in a deep enough container so that water goes up to the calves. A cold foot bath can relieve headache and insomnia. Alternating hot and cold water helps improve circulation.
The fate of the nut of the African Shea tree (Vitellaria Paradox) is the source of Shea Butter. The traditional use of the butter is to reduce the appearance of fine lines, scars and stretch marks and to ease a variety of skin irritations, such as psoriasis, eczema and sunburn. Makers of cosmetics also mix this natural substance with other botanical ingredients. Shea butter are absorbed, there is evidence to suggest that cinnamic acid esters in shea fat help to prevent skin damage from ultraviolet radiation.
Body oils contain special blends of ingredients designed target specific areas of your body. Some can help to relieve upset stomach; others improve circulation, alleviate pain in sore muscles and relieve stiff jointsTo Maximize the amount of moisture that your skin absorbs, wash off any perfumes or lotions and exfoliate your skin before applying body oil. Allow the oil to soak in for at least five minutes before getting dressed so that your skin, rather than your clothing, is the thing that remains moisturized.
Skin that is regularly exfoliated is healthier skin, both in appearance and function. Cleansed of dead skin, the largest organ can circulate more efficiently, breathing in good nourishment and expelling toxins. It also glows, is more uniform in appearance with tighter pores, and is soft to the touch.
Exfoliating with a sugar scrub doesn't relax the muscles, the way salt does, but it relaxes the mind with its delicious smell. Sugar is also full of glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid that is crucial for maintaining healthy skin and is usually a key ingredient in pricey products. The natural glycolic acid in sugar not only helps condition and moisturize skin, but protect it from toxins.
